Thermo-Stone's thin film heating element features a conductive thin film applied to the surface of an insulative substrate. Our advanced film deposition system integrates the heater with the surface of the substrate resulting in a very uniform radiant heater.
Radiant heating is achieved by "spreading the energy" evenly over the substrate. The entire surface becomes the active heat source which transfers energy more effectively. Thin film heating requires low watt density and less power for improved energy efficiency. Various proprietary formulas and processes are used to control the resistance value of the element to meet the requirements of the application. Thermo-Stone heaters have low thermal inertia for fast heat response and more accurate temperature control.

Thermo-Stone's thin film technology integrates heaters on tubular substrates to provide efficient heat transfer and fast response.
This advanced technology uses conductive thin films that are deposited onto an insulative substrate. Having a low thermal mass of less than one micron and a watt density of up to 150 watts per square inch allows the component to heat up and cool down rapidly.
Thermo-Stone thin film tube heaters are efficient and economical for heating liquids or gases for bio-med and semiconductor applications. A thin film tube heater is a clean heat source. It removes the risk of process contamination in the event of element failure. Teflon® or plastic tubing can be inserted inside the glass tube heater for further protection. An optically transparent substrate can also serve a double function as view port and heat source.
Thermo-Stone thin film heaters are an excellent choice for hi-tech applications where temperature control and contamination are a concern. When applied to materials that have good heat conductivity, thin film offers an ideal solution.
Optional built-in thermocouples are available as part of the component design. Our patented low mass integrated thermocouple can be placed at several points on the heater for accurate temperature control.

Thermo-Stone thin film heaters have offered several innovative solutions for efficient heating solutions.
Now, another first from Thermo-Stone comes with the development of thin film heater in combination with porous substrate materials which can be flat or tubular for the heating of gas or liquid.
Thin film is deposited on a porous fluid permeable substrate material having pores which are sufficiently small to slow the flow of fluid to be heated by increasing contact time of the fluid with the substrate. The thin film is less than a micron in thickness and does not diminish the flow characteristics of the substrate even though it permeates most of the pores providing more heating surface.
The low thermal mass of the thin film heater of less than one micron, coupled with a watt density of over 80 wsi makes the component heat up and cool down rapidly.
